Description of the Problem the Campaign is seeking to address (50 word max):

Off-shore energy is nothing new to the Gulf of Mexico.  But when Shell announced plans for a submerged combustion vaporizer (or open-loop) LNG terminal which would jeopardize fish populations by sucking up, chilling and sterilizing hundreds of millions of gallons of Gulf seawater every day, we said “No.”

Description of the Victory (30 word max):

When Shell announced its abandonment of the project, it was a result of an unlikely coalition of fishermen and environmentalists coming together and challenging Shell throughout our region and internationally.

A Brief Description of the long-term impact of the victory (150 word max):

Known as the "Energy Coast" the Western Gulf of Mexico has long been the U.S. energy sacrifice zone, with oil and gas exploration, development, refining, transportation and processing taking a massive toll on our environment and public health.  The Shell victory, and the two Gubernatorial LNG vetoes that our campaign secured to proceed it, mark the first significant time that the Western Gulf states told the energy industry 'no.' This victory sows the seeds for further concessions from the energy industry for its impacts on our coast and communities.  In addition, this victory has demonstrated how to win conservation gains in what has been known as enemy territory: those with unified goals must set aside differences and work in good faith.  In this case, recreational fishing interests, commercial fishing groups and environmentalist put aside disagreements to pull together and win.  It was fun, and we intend to do it again.
